Senior Lecturer|Lecturer (Microbiology)

The Microbiology discipline within the school is particularly active, featuring a strong research profile and a dynamic postgraduate research program.

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to teaching and research in Microbiology and other related disciplines at the Westville campus. Responsibilities will include undergraduate and postgraduate curriculum development and supervision of postgraduate students.

A strong background in Microbiology, particularly bacteriology and microbial genetics, is essential.

The incumbent will report to the Academic Leader: Biotechnology.

Minimum Requirements

Lecturer:

  • PhD degree in Microbiology or an MSc degree in Microbiology or a related field, with evidence of submission of a PhD thesis for examination.
  • Experience in teaching in a relevant field at the tertiary level.
  • Evidence of presentations at national or international conferences.
  • Current research activity as evidenced by publication(s) in quality scientific journals.

Senior Lecturer:

  • PhD degree in Microbiology or a related field.
  • Evidence of appropriate teaching experience in a relevant field at the tertiary level.
  • Evidence of a current and sustained research publication record in quality scientific journals, appropriate for the level.
  • A track record of successful supervision of postgraduate students at Masters and/or PhD levels as appropriate for the level.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply for research grants, either as the Principal Investigator or as a member of a team.
