UKZN Dolphins Triumph in Blind Cricket SA. The KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Hollywoodbets Dolphins Blind Cricket team emerged as champions at the 2024 Blind Cricket South Africa (BCSA) T20 National Tournament, held in Potchefstroom from April 27-30. Competing against seven other provincial teams, the Dolphins finished the tournament undefeated, securing victories in all seven matches. This remarkable feat brought the T20 trophy to KZN for the first time in their history, marking their first national title in blind cricket since winning the 40-Over-format BCSA One Day Cup in 2004.

The tournament saw participation from teams across South Africa, including Limpopo, Northerns (Northern Gauteng), Free State, Boland, North West Dragons, DP World Lions (Central Gauteng), and Border Lions (Eastern Cape). The Dolphins’ dominant performance throughout the tournament highlighted their dedication and skill, cementing their status as the top blind cricket team in the country.

Leadership and Team Unity

UKZN Hollywoodbets Dolphins’ Vice-Captain, Mr. Tebogo Moloisane, attributed the team’s success to their unity and commitment. “We created unity, commitment, and dedication among our team players to accomplish our goal, which was to bring the Cup home,” Moloisane stated, reflecting on the collective effort that drove their historic win.

Dr. Khumbuzile Khumalo, a lecturer in Biokinetics, Exercise, and Leisure Sciences (BELS) at UKZN and the assistant manager of the Dolphins, underscored the importance of expanding blind cricket to disadvantaged communities.
