Scam Alert for UKZN Applicants

Beware of Payment Requests

Prospective students are strongly advised against making any payments to individuals or entities claiming to secure a place at the university. Mr. Zondo stressed that university admissions are based on merit and transparent processes, and no legitimate offer of admission would require a payment. “University spaces are not for sale,” he affirmed, underscoring that any request for money in exchange for admission is a scam.

Illegal Matric Upgrade Centers

In addition to the warning about fraudulent payments, Mr. Zondo highlighted another concerning issue: the proliferation of illegal matric upgrade centers falsely claiming affiliation with UKZN. These centers mislead students by promising to improve their matric results, often at a high cost. Mr. Zondo categorically denied any connection between UKZN and these illicit operations. “We further warn against any illegal matric upgrade centres that claim to be associated with UKZN,” he stated.

Protect Yourself from Scams

To safeguard themselves from scams, applicants should:

  1. Verify Information: Always check the official UKZN website or contact the university directly to verify the legitimacy of any communication or request.
  2. Report Suspicious Activity: Immediately report any suspicious requests for payment or claims of guaranteed admission in exchange for money to the university authorities.
  3. Avoid Unofficial Channels: Refrain from engaging with any third-party agents or unofficial sources that claim to assist with the application process.

Conclusion

By following these precautions, prospective students can protect themselves from falling victim to fraudulent schemes and ensure their application process is legitimate and secure.

For further information and updates, applicants are encouraged to regularly visit the official UKZN website and follow their verified communication channels.
