Fire-Affected Staff Are Assisted By The UKZN Community. Tragedy struck the close-knit community when a fierce fire engulfed the area, leaving many families displaced and without their belongings. Among those affected were dedicated members of the Department of Student Residence Affairs (DSRA) and the Campus and Risk Management Services divisions, who found themselves grappling with the loss of everything they owned.

Support Efforts by UKZN Community

In the wake of this calamity, UKZN’s Corporate Relations Division wasted no time in rallying support for the affected individuals. A call for assistance was issued, and the response from within the university community was nothing short of remarkable.

Donations poured in, ranging from clothing and household items to Pick n Pay shopping vouchers, all aimed at easing the burden on the victims as they worked to rebuild their lives.

Gratitude and Distribution of Donations

Ms. Normah Zondo, Acting Executive Director of the Corporate Relations Division, expressed profound gratitude to colleagues, students, and alumni who generously contributed to the cause. With heartfelt appreciation, she emphasized the significance of standing together in times of adversity.

As a gesture of support and solidarity, Ms. Zondo personally distributed the donations to the affected staff members, offering words of comfort and reassurance in their time of need.

Personal Testimony

Reflecting on the ordeal, Ms. Lungile Skhosana of the DSRA shared her harrowing experience of witnessing her home consumed by the flames. The profound sense of loss and devastation she felt serves as a poignant reminder of the human toll exacted by such disasters.

Yet, amidst the despair, there shines a beacon of hope – the unwavering support extended by the UKZN community, reaffirming the bonds of compassion and unity that define the institution.
