UKZN Remains Among The Best in SA and Africa. The University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) continues to uphold its reputation as one of the top universities in South Africa and Africa, as indicated by the latest academic ranking from the University Ranking by Academic Performance (URAP) for 2024.

The URAP ranking system, which emphasizes academic quality, positions UKZN as the fourth-best university in South Africa.

Corporate Response

Ms. Normah Zondo, the Corporate Relations Executive Director, expressed satisfaction with the recent ranking, stating, “These rankings confirm our standing as one of the top universities in South Africa and on the continent. They are also a testament to the hard work our staff, students, and stakeholders continue to put in.”

Consistent Recognition

Various ranking organizations have consistently placed UKZN among the top five universities in South Africa and Africa. In 2023, the Center for World University Rankings (CWUR) ranked UKZN in the top 2.4%, securing the fourth position on the continent and 478th globally out of 20,531 universities assessed.

Similarly, EduRank recognized UKZN among the top five universities in South Africa and the top six in Africa, considering research outputs, non-academic prominence, and alumni influence.

Zondo reiterated UKZN’s commitment to building on its current and past achievements, maintaining its mission of inspiring greatness across all disciplines. She noted, “We are proud of the recent ranking of our University at a global level. This is well received by all stakeholders as the rankings place our Institution on the world map. It is clear that UKZN is making great strides in various areas.”
