Masks Donated To SA Medical Students By UKZN. The University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) has recently been a recipient of a significant contribution aimed at bolstering the safety measures for final-year Medical students across South Africa. This initiative comes as a response to the pressing need for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) following the resumption of studies post the national lockdown restrictions.

The Solidarity Fund Contribution

Led by Professor Ncoza Dlova, the Dean of Clinical Medicine at UKZN, efforts were made to secure donations from the Solidarity Fund and other reputable organizations. Through collaborative endeavors with the Final Year Student Committee, potential PPE donors were identified, resulting in the procurement of hundreds of thousands of masks for distribution among universities offering medical training programs.

Gratitude and Acknowledgment

Expressing gratitude for the substantial contribution, Miss Khwezi Khanyile, Principal Programme Officer at UKZN Medical School, extended thanks to the donors for their invaluable support during these challenging times. The donations, ranging from 90,000 to 100,000 masks per university, have significantly enhanced the safety measures for medical students, thereby reducing the risk of exposure to the coronavirus.

Donor Recognition

The benevolent donors, including Gift of the Givers, Investec, the UKZN Foundation, the Solidarity Fund, PPS, Sanlam, and UKZN School of Clinical Medicine, played a pivotal role in ensuring the success of this initiative. Their commitment to supporting medical education and healthcare endeavors underscores the importance of collaborative efforts in combating the pandemic.
