Director UKZN Press

The Director of the UKZN Press is tasked with providing visionary leadership, strategic direction, and operational oversight. This role involves driving the Press growth, ensuring financial sustainability, and fostering stakeholder engagement. Key responsibilities include:

Visionary Leadership and Strategic Direction

  • Defining and implementing the strategic direction of the UKZN Press.
  • Aligning the Press operations with the University’s overall vision.
  • Enhancing the Press’s contribution to the University’s revenue streams and academic excellence.

Operational Oversight

  • Overseeing day-to-day operations to ensure efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Managing financial sustainability through innovative publishing ventures.
  • Generating third-stream income by exploring new business opportunities and collaborations.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Building and maintaining relationships with authors, readers, partners, and university leadership.
  • Acting as the primary point of contact for external parties.
  • Cultivating mutually beneficial partnerships to enhance the Press’s impact.

Team Leadership

  • Providing leadership, guidance, and support to the UKZN Press team.
  • Ensuring the team is motivated and aligned with the Press’s strategic goals.
  • Promoting a culture of excellence and innovation within the team.

Minimum Requirements

Candidates must meet the following minimum requirements to be considered for the position:

  • Educational Qualifications: A relevant Master’s Degree.
  • Experience: Eight years of relevant experience, including proven experience in publishing.
  • Skills and Knowledge:
  • In-depth insight and understanding of publishing in an international context.
  • Proven ability to develop and implement successful marketing strategies.
  • Knowledge of International Rights and Licensing.
  • Strong understanding of publishing contracts.
