UKZN Hosts 2024 Parents And Orientation Days. The University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) commenced the academic year by hosting a series of virtual events, including Parents Day and Orientation Days, to welcome new students and provide essential information to parents.

UKZN Insights from Parents Day

At the virtual Parents’ Day event, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Teaching and Learning, Professor Thabo Msibi, expressed gratitude to parents for their dedication to securing a brighter future for their children.

He highlighted the rigorous selection process, with 9,000 first-time entering students chosen from an impressive 160,000 applications. This selective process underscores the exceptional abilities and potential of the students admitted.

UKZN Orientation Days Highlights

Executive Director of Corporate Relations, Ms Normah Zondo, provided attendees with an overview of the university’s vision and plans for the academic year.

SRC Central President, Mr Nduduzo Zulu, assured parents of a supportive campus environment and encouraged students to reach out to the SRC for assistance.

UKZN College-specific Programs

Each college tailored its orientation programs to meet the unique needs of its students. The College of Health Sciences (CHS) offered the Navigating Your First Year Experience program, assisting students with their transition to university life.

Similarly, the College of Humanities and the College of Law and Management Studies emphasized the competitive nature of admission and encouraged students to embrace learning and critical thinking.

UKZN Practical Assistance

The College of Agriculture, Engineering, and Science focused on providing practical tips to new students, including guidance on online registration, fee payments, and campus logistics. Daily interactive Q&A sessions in English and isiZulu were conducted to address students’ queries and concerns.
