UKZN Borrowing Information.Your student card, staff card, or visitor card doubles as your library card. Simply present it at the Issue Desk along with the materials you wish to borrow, and the staff will assist you in borrowing the material.

Registration Process

  • UKZN Students: Automatically registered as library members. Your student card serves as your Library Card. Activation typically occurs early the day after registration by the faculty office.
  • Permanent Staff: Issued with a staff card serving as the Library Card. Activation follows the staff record’s capture by Human Resources.
  • Contract Staff: Most are automatically registered; exceptions require completion of a registration form at the Circulation Desk.

Restrictions and Additional Information

  • Each user may only have one active library record.
  • Affiliates and Academic Visitors can register with appropriate surety forms.
  • Non-UKZN patrons may join the Library for a fee.
  • Unisa students need to become subscribers to borrow items.
  • Access to licensed databases is restricted to UKZN staff and students.
