Finance and Accounting Professions at UKZN Recognised. The University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) has been honored with the esteemed Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA) Leadership Award Africa 2024.

This recognition was bestowed upon UKZN at the inaugural American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) CGMA Professional Awards Africa ceremony held in Johannesburg on 24 November 2024.

Outstanding Contribution to the Finance and Accounting Profession in Africa

The award highlights UKZN’s exceptional CGMA exam pass rates over the past three years, underscoring its significant role in shaping the future trajectory and progress of the accounting and finance profession. Through its School of Accounting, Economics, and Finance, UKZN has demonstrated remarkable efforts in nurturing upcoming leaders across the African continent, contributing to the advancement of the finance and accounting field.

Accreditation and Academic Excellence

The School of Accounting, Economics, and Finance at UKZN holds accreditation for Bachelor of Commerce Honours in Management Accounting from CIMA, offering students a valuable advantage upon graduation. Dr. Patricia Shewell, Programme Manager and Academic Leader for Teaching and Learning, expressed gratitude for the ongoing recognition from AICPA and CIMA, emphasizing UKZN’s pivotal role in producing future finance and accounting leaders for Africa.

Acknowledgment of Excellence

More than 190 submissions and nominations were received from educational institutions, businesses, and individuals across Africa for various categories at the AICPA and CIMA CGMA Professional Awards Africa ceremony. The award recipients were commended for their dedication, passion, and hard work in advancing the finance and accounting profession in Africa.
